Cornerstone

"Walk of Faith" Project

The Cornerstone for the new building complex has been installed on the right wall at the front of the new daily chapel.  It boldly proclaims the year 2006.  In a few weeks, documents regarding the history of the new church will be placed in it.

The 1957 cornerstone at the front of the existing church contains a history of St. Henry written by our first past, Msgr. Joe Seiner.  This includes a 1957 newspaper, construction photos and other important papers.

St. Henry Courtyard to grow Brick by Brick

The grassy area between the church and parish offices, now dotted only with a children’s slide, is now the site for a unique memorial honoring St. Henry Church, School and community.

Engraved bricks, which incorporate a design in the shape of a cross, are available to honor family and loved ones and commemorate anniversaries, baptisms, graduations and other milestones.

“The idea began as I searched for a new way to raise funds for phase two of the school’s technology upgrade program,” Mary Beth Hargrove remembers.

She decided on an engraved brick project that could incorporate the school, church and building program. After receiving enthusiastic approval from Sister Mary Jordan, O.P., principal of the school, and Fr. Mike Johnston, Mary Beth and the Stewardship Office went to work.   A church/school partnership was formed, project suppliers and parameters agreed to and the project started to take shape.

The first phase of the project is a walkway through the existing grassy courtyard which is located between the church and parish offices.  Hodgson and Douglas, landscape designers for the entire building project, will design the bricked walkway.  Class Glass which is owned by parishioner Karen Nicholl will supply the engraved bricks.

The bricks will be sold as follows:

·    4 by 8 bricks will sell for $75.00.

There will be three lines of copy per brick, with 14 characters per line.

·     8 by 8 limestone pavers will sell for $150.  The pavers can accommodate six lines of copy, with 14 character per line.

Profits from the brick project will be split equally between the school and church.

“The bricks are a wonderful opportunity to honor children, parents, grandparents, favorite aunts, uncles and teachers,” Mary Beth points out. “The engraved bricks also commemorate wedding anniversaries, births, baptism, first communion, confirmation, graduation and many other milestones. A onetime donation will last a lifetime.”
